PK campus offers specialisation in new subjects

Kathmandu: In its bid to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, Padma Kanya Campus under the Tribhuvan University, has introduced specialisation programmes in three different subjects under its Masters in Home Sciences programme. Addressing a press meet here today, Prof Harindar Thapaliya, head of the department of home science, said people were still ignorant about the concept of home science even after 50 years of the introduction of the programme at the academic level. 'Home science is not only about teaching cookery and taking care of family. It also deal with other family problems such as how children are addicted to drugs and why girls don't get equal freedom like the boys,' he added. The campus is offering specialisation in food and nutrition, child development and gender socialisation. 'Food and nutrition is a study of basic human needs, which helps to keep sound physical and mental health knowledge,' said Prof Indira Sharma.
