Kathmandu Houseplants, also known as indoor plants, can be the most important part of your living room décor, changing your room’s appearance into a charming place to live in. It helps to create a cosier ambience whenever you enter your room. Taking care of houseplants can be adventurous at times, but at the same time it can be a daunting task if you do not know how to go about taking care of your newly bought indoor plants. Pressure mounts when your loving plants ask you to rescue them, but you are helpless and cannot do anything but watch them die. “Taking care of indoor plants is twice as hard as taking care of outdoor plants,” said Suraj Kumar Pradhan from Chameli Nursery. According to Pradhan there are a few basic and very important tips that a new gardener should take into account and follow through very carefully which are as follows.
Nurturing plants with compost You might have brought home few of your favourite houseplants like Schefflera or Singonium for a good interior. If you are trying to repot the plant into a new and probably bigger pot, be careful to mix compost manure with equal amount of soil needed for the pot. Compost manures are readily available at any nursery and have no side effects on your delicate plants. Keep at least three months gap whenever you treat the same plant with new compost. You need to follow a systematic process for this. Slowly pick out upper layer soil of a pot with your hands and place the compost manure to fill the gap in the middle and then cover the pot with soil again.
Trimmings When your plants begin to grow healthy and large do not leave it just like that, or else it might look shabby making your room appear untidy and unmanaged. Trim it when your plants need it. “The best season to trim any plant is winter,” said Pradhan. Trimming helps your plant appear bushy giving it a wonderful shape and look. Short-growth plants like Singonium and Chaemadora do not need trimming but plants that have the tendency to grow large should be trimmed when necessary.
Temperature, sunlight, water Houseplants, especially climbers, like Money plant and Philodendron does not need sunlight. They grow with the help of warm temperature of the room. Besides climbers other flowers need sunlight for their growth and maintenance. Therefore it is imperative to keep them in a place where they receive direct sunlight at least twice a week. Be careful enough while you water plants. Too much or to little water can be harmful for the growth of potted plants. When soil in the pot is damp do not water.
While repotting When your plants need repotting and you are wondering how it is to be done, never use just your might. There is a wise way to do it. The best thing you can do to save roots of the plants is to break your old pot and shift the plant into a new one. Another option you have is to hold the pot upside down and tap the bottom of the pot so that roots and soil come off the pot. If the right method is not used while repotting the roots get broken, and it will take time for the roots to grow.
Mind it! Plants are environment friendly. They inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen in the daytime, but the process is exactly the opposite during nighttime. Therefore, if possible, keep your lovely indoor plants in other rooms except your bedroom and enjoy the radiant environment your plant shares with you.
