KATHMANDU: Teachers associated with Nepal Community Higher Secondary Teachers’ Union today announced to shut down higher secondary schools across the country as well as Higher Secondary Education Board for an indefinite period from tomorrow. Talking to The Himalayan Times, Pralhad Raj Gautam, secretary, NCHSTU, said, “After 12 days of relay hunger strike, the government did not do anything to address our demands. We have been compelled to shut the institutions indefinitely.” “Our peaceful protest failed to appeal to them. We’ll now intensify our protest by halting regular activities at the higher secondary schools and the HSEB,” Gautam added. “Our colleagues have arrived here from outside the Valley to make the programme a success.” The teachers’ body would also observe a 13-day ritual at Ratna Park to symbolically begin the new form of protest. The agitating teachers have been demanding that reports prepared by Chaitanya Sharma and the Technical Committee be implemented. The reports dwell on pay and perks for the higher secondary staffers and release of allocated funds.
