Former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has taken up the role of the honorary chairman of a non-profit organisation founded in California, USA, with the vision of creating a lasting change in Nepal.

'The esteemed presence of Deuba, who is also the president of Nepali Congress (Democratic), will behoove the organisation for its strategic growth, and its long-term vision of imparting social and economic reforms in Nepal,' said the Society for Open Nepal (SFON) today.

Co-founded by Sujit Thapa and Dipesh Shrestha, the Society for Open Nepal is committed to assisting in creating a lasting change in Nepal, with a mission to provide impetus in transforming the country into a knowledge-based open society.

The SFON plans to initiate and support sound education programmes, and is also geared

towards contributing to social and economic programmes to accelerate social and economic changes.
