KATHMANDU: The Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum today unanimously elected its chairman Upendra Yadav as the party's leader in parliament. The party held election for its Parliamentary Party (PP) leader after expelling erstwhile PP leader Bijay Kumar Gachhadar and two other lawmakers Sharat Singh Bhandari and Ram Janam Chaudhary some weeks ago. According to party's lawmaker Akbal Ahamad Shah, 24 Constituent Assembly members were present in the election. 'We had publicised the list of 50 lawmakers. But only 24 of them took part in the election,' he added. He, however, claimed that 28 lawmakers of the party were with the establishment faction. Shah said other lawmakers, who supported the breakaway faction led by Gachhadar, were gradually returning to the party. 'The next meeting of the PP will form the working committee,' he added. The establishment faction of the party has already decided to remain in the opposition, after the Prime Minister appointed Gachhadar as his deputy without the party's nod. The MJF has split in two groups led by Upendra Yadav and Deputy PM Gachhadar. Both the factions have lodged petitions at the Election Commission, claiming legitimacy. The Election Commission will decide on the claims of both the factions after studying the legalities of their claims. Gachhadar had submitted the signatures of 32 lawmakers to PM while reaffirming the party's support to the coalition government. Gachhadar enjoys majority in the PP while Yadav holds sway in the party's central committee.
