KATHMANDU: Anju Baral of Western Region won the women's 400m wheel chair race during the Special National Games held for the differently-abled athletes here at the Dasharath Stadium today. Anju timed 2 minutes, 37.30 seconds to win the gold medal ahead of Sarita Thapa (2:50.20) of Central Region and Daam Kumari Bhandari (4:14.40) of Mid-Western Region. Jhalak Adhikari of Western Region claimed the men's event in 1:49.22. Narendra Raj Chhetri (2:00.00) of Mid-Western Region and Mahesh Chaudhary (2:52.00) of Far-Western Region finished second and third respectively. Khem Kumari Dhungel of Mid-Western won gold in a 200m race held for a single crutch users. Khem Kumari timed 1:12.60. Yam Maya Rana ( 1:37.40) of Western Region and Binita Shrestha (1:59.10) of Eastern Region claimed silver and bronze medal respectively. Abodh Bihani Loniya of Western Region won event in men's section with the timing of 47.20. Kaji Ram Chaudhary (1:24.10) of Far-Western Region and Shakar Sharma (1:32.80) of Eastern Region ended up second and third. In the women's 200m race for the double crutches users, Sushma BK of Mid-Western timed 1:12.6 to win the gold medal. Sita Chhetry of Western Region earned silver in 1:17.9. Yam Bhandari of Far-Western won the event in the men's section in 52.2. Yam was followed by Mohan Bahadur Karki (58.00) of Central Region and Megh Nath Dhakal (1:18.70) of Western Region. Bir Bahadur Chhetry of Central Region won the men's 200m gold in a competition for athletes who had problems with hands. Rishi Ram Banskota of Far-Western and Kailash BK of Mid-Western fineshed second and third respectively. Rama Poudel (1:52.30) of Western Region won the event in women's section. Pushpa Basnet (41.9) of Mid-Western Region won the competition for athletes with weak legs. Shanti Deep Regmi (29.9) stood first in the event held for men. Sunita Ghimire (40.30) and Surya Prasad Bhattarai (29.50), both of Western Region, won the 200m championships held for visually impaired (partial) athletes. Khadga Bahadur Rana (58.90) and Rukma Rana (1:22.80), both of Far-Western, won the 400m race held for hearing impaired athletes. Likewise, Surya Bahadur Basnet (37.1) of Mid-Western and Sara Thapa (37.4) of Western Region won the 200m gold in the mentally retarded section. Dan Bahadur Bohara (39.9) and Basanti Oli claimed the 200m gold in a competition for athletes with short heights. Bikram Bahadur Rana of Central Region and Rita Thapa of Western Region claimed the gold medals in the visually impaired section. In all, 81 differently-abled athletes took part the tournament organised by the Nepal Paralympic Committee.
