I got up late that day and was hurrying off to my office when I was met with a bad traffic jam. “Just my luck” I thought to myself as I got down from the micro bus and began what I knew would be a long walk. I tried to find the reason for the traffic jam. “There is a Sawari right now,” a woman answered. Thanks to my absent-mindedness, I had forgotten to jot down this event in my schedule! How could I, as I see the same things every now and then? Walking along the road, I could overhear: “We sip the same wine and eat the same food yet nobody cares about us and our desires are not yet fulfilled. The constitution making process is difficult. We cast our votes for a new constitution, not for government change, shuffling cabinet, and power sharing. They need to reach a consensus to assure constitution making is completed on time. They must respect the mandate that we gave them for making a new constitution. They are just killing our aspirations by misleading us as if we were kids.” For a republic and a new constitution, we raised voices, joined hands, and shed blood. But, for what? A delayed constitution making process! State-players must not take constitution making for granted as they are not even being able to meet the deadline that they had set. There is no room for any excuse. We lost and are losing precious timeline for the sake of forming government, power sharing, role conflict, boycotting house and assembly meetings. We are still fighting with our own brothers and sisters in a family. Our voices are not being heard even now. Why? Is it cricket? Time is not up yet. There is still time for all political parties to rectify themselves and be in line with the reasons for which we gave them our votes. We desperately need a people-oriented new constitution. Constituent Assembly members and its committees, government officials and other non-state players must answer these questions. We really need it. This is our Right-to-Information and Right-to-Participation. Don’t ever try to hurt it. There came my destination finally. I could not sleep that night just reflecting on the voices I heard in the morning. I did not even have a tranquilizer. Wish I had one! Then went the darkness and shone a new sun. I forgot all the muddles of my great quandary and felt relieved. May god give the same energy to our nation’s leaders!
