Tri-Chandra advance KATHMANDU: Tri-Chandra Campus and Sahid Ram Nath Campus entered the Super Six stage in the third Valleywide Inter-college Professors’ Volleyball Tournament here on Monday. Tri-Chandra defeated Patan Multiple Campus 25-17, 25-8 and Ram Nath Campus dispatched Jana Prasasan Campus 25-16, 25-17. On Wednesday, hosts Pandma Kanya Campus will take on Amrit Science College, Ratna Rajya Campus will meet Ram Nath and Tri Chandra will face Nepal Commerce Campus. — HNS
Weightlifting C’ship KATHMANDU: The Weightlifting Association, Banke is organising the Western Nepal Kattha Mills Men and Women’s National Weightlifting Championships in Nepalgunj on July 20-21. About 100 weightlifters from 22 districts will vie for the championships. The tournament features eight weight categories in men and seven in women’s sections. The estimated cost of the championship is Rs 350,000. — HNS
Hossain on standby DHAKA: Bangladesh on Monday named medium-pacer Nazmul Hossain as a cover for injured captain Mashrafe Mortaza for the remaining two-Test series against the West Indies. Hossain, who played his first and only Test in December 2004, would fly to the Caribbean on Monday, Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesman Rabeed Imam said. Mortazav fell over and injured his right knee while bowling on Saturday, the third day of the ongoing first Test at Kingstown, St Vincent. The fast bowler left the field and was taken to hospital for a precautionary medical examination. — AFP
