KATHMANDU: One of the CA members, who recently with the Dalai Lama in the Indian city of Dharamsala, said that her visit was completely private and she had no intention to tarnish the Sino-Nepal relationship. Speaking at a function organised here today, Rukmini Tharu of the Federation of Democratic National Front accused the media of sensationalising the issue in a bid to undermine the ongoing Tharuhat movement in Tarai. China had lodged a protest with the government following an unofficial visit of the six CA members belonging to Medhesi Janaadhikar Forum, Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, Dalit Janajati Party and the FDNF on June 24. The visit was arranged by Siddhartha Gautam Tripathi, president of the Lumbini Foundation. Initially, I was told that the delegation would only attend a Buddhist Conference for non-violence and peace in New Delhi, said Tharu. “It came to my knowledge that a visit to the Dalai Lama was scheduled later in the trip,” she added. She said, “It is a design to trap the CA members from the Tarai in controversial issues with China.” The CA members were accused of going against the One China Policy adopted by the government.
