Nurses brace up for protest

By Himalayan News Service

KATHMANDU: Nursing Association of Nepal has warned of launching protest programmes beginning tomorrow if the government does not pay heed to their demand. Sarala KC, president, NAN, said they had forwarded a charter of 21 demands to the government. They are all set to halt all the services including emergency on August 2 at all nursing campuses, health posts, central hospitals, as well as private hospitals. They will halt their services for six hours on August 1, four hours on July 31, two hours on July 30 and one hour on July 29. Tomorrow, they will work with black bands on their arms. Talking to The Himalayan Times, KC demanded that the government should stop interfering in the sector. They are also demanding the reinstatement of Man Kumari Rai, the then registrar, who was sacked by the present government. “A separate nursing division under Ministry of Health and Population needs to be re-established at the earliest,” said KC, seeking a uniformity of pay and perks for those working in private and public hospitals. They have sought to revise the posting criteria of nurses.
