Fire kills woman
NEPALGUNJ: One woman died and as many as 50 houses were gutted when a fire broke out at the Miyapurwa village in Banke district on Wednesday. Property worth one million rupees was gutted in the fire. The deceased has been identified as Munni Khan. — HNS
Students padlock campus
LEKHNATH: Students of the Engineering Campus have padlocked the administrative building of the campus. They took the move after the campus chief, Abhimanyu Singh, refused to provide them with a vehicle for rushing one of their friends, who was hurt while playing football, to a hospital. — RSS
NC leader Poudel falls ill
TANAHUN: Central member of the Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Poudel, who has been kept at the district police office (DPO), has been suffering from backache since Monday. Doctors from the Damauli Hospital have been attending to Poudel, the district administration office said (DAO) said. Poudel has been kept at the police office since February 1. — HNS
Elephant kills one
JHAPA: Narayan Chaudhary, a resident of Budhbare VDC-8, Jhapa, died when an elephant attacked him at the Adarsha Namuna Community forest on Tuesday. Chaudhary had gone to the jungle to collect firewood. The elephant has been roaming in the Budhbarer Shanischare VDC for some time. Chaudhary had gone to the jungle to collect firewood, locals said. — HNS
Mishap kills one
BHARATPUR: One person died and three were injured when a bus overturned after hitting a tractor on the Narayangarh-Hetauda road section of the Mahendra Highway on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Baburam Giri, 20, of Nalang VDC-3, Dhading, the police said. — RSS

Call for abductee’s release
LEKHNATH: The Lekhanth Industry and Commerce Association has urged the Maoists to release the chairman of the Pyuthan Industry and Commerce Association, Rajkumar Kachhayapati. Foundation stones laid
Kathmandu: Indian envoy to Nepal, Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, on Wednesday laid foundation stones for the construction of two school buildings in Balara and Garahiya Dumariya in Sarlahi. According to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the government of India will extend assistance of Rs 12.1 million and Rs 8.5 million for the construction of buildings of the Shree Ramsakhi Mohit Singh Janata Lower Secondary School in Balara Shree Janata Secondary School in Garahiya, Dumariya, and for purchasing necessary equipment for the schools. The school buildings will be called ‘Nepal Bharat Maitri Bhavan’. — HNS
APF’s brigade at Balambu
KATHMANDU: Armed Police Force’s Valley brigade, Pashupati Brigade, has started it’s work from Balambu from Wednesday. According to a press release issued by the APF headquarters, the newly established brigade is located at Balambu. The government decided to establish the APF’s Valley brigade on January 13. — HNS
