Diarrhoea spreads to Achham

ACCHAM: Eight villagers have died of diarrhoea in Achham district within the past one month period. According to District Public Health Office, the deceased villagers are Tule Kami (40) of Balanta-9, Bhunti Saut (66) of Budhakot-9, Lalit Damai(11) of Kalika-4 and Chandradevi Swar (62) of Kalika-2. Likewise, Bibek Rawal of Japuka, Aamami Thapa of Dhungachalna, Moni Kami of Bhishma-9, Nirpa Nepali of Dhakari-3 have also succumbed to the disease. The District Hospital said the death was prompted by lack of treatment as they were not taken to health facilities on time. Altogether 25 VDCs, including the district headquarters Mangalsen, have been under the grip of the diarrhoeal outbreak. According to Dr Purushottamraj Sedhain, chief, District Hospital, special campaign has been launched to control the disease in various VDCs. He said natural disaster rescue committee, district based political parties and different organisations have been mobilised for the purpose. In the affected VDCs, health workers’ teams with medicines have been sent. “We’ve started round the clock health service in 10 places in the district for the smooth supply of medicine.” The hospital has also declared 10 of the total 25 VDCs the badly-hit regions and special campaign has been launched there.
