KATHMANDU: Biplab Man Singh, who was accused of mowing down 6 people on Tuesday night, made a public appearance in a press meet organised by the Nepal Police at Hanuman Dhoka, Kathmandu on Thursday.
Biplab Man Singh surrendered to the police after 24 hours on Wednesday night and confessed his crime. According his police statement, the accident occurred while he turned sharply to the left trying to avoid hitting a motorcycle but unfortunately the turn was more than intended which led to hitting the pedestrians. However, his version of the statement does not comply with the statement of an eye witness which states that the car was trying to overtake the motorcycle and not avoid it. He said he was out from his home, Kichapokhari, to drop his friends off after his birthday party. Singh insisted that he was not drunk although he had taken a little wine and did not disclose the names of the people present inside the car at the time of the accident. Singh, 21, is in Nepal for a vacation from Bangalore, India, where he is doing Bachelor of Business Management (BBM). In one of the deadliest crashes, six pedestrians—five Indians and one Nepali—were killed when a speeding car mowed them down on the footpath of Bhotahiti on Tuesday night.
