School basketball KATHMANDU: Greenland International Secondary Boarding School is organising the fourth KWIK’S Greenland Inter-School Basketball Tournament here from Thursday. In all, 33 teams are vying for the championships in two categories — Junior and Senior Boys. In all 17 teams are in fray for the Junior Boys’ title while 16 in Senior Boys’ championship. The tournament will be played under league-cum-knockout format. — HNS Friendly road race KATHMANDU: Youth and Sports Ministry organised a friendly road race to mark the International Youth Day on Wednesday. Members of youth wings of political parties took part in the race. The race started from Tripureswor en route to Singha Durbar, Shahid Gate before culminating at the starting point. Minister for Youth and Sports Ganesh Nepali inaugurated the race. Acting member secretary of the National Sports Council Bishnu Prasad Lamshal was also present on the occasion. — HNS ‘Lescott not for sale’ LIVERPOOL: Everton manager David Moyes insists he has no intention of selling Joleon Lescott to Manchester City after turning down the England defender’s transfer request. City have had two offers of £16 million and £18 million rejected by Moyes and Lescott tried to force Everton’s hand this week by asking to leave. But Moyes is determined to keep the 26-year-old and he warned Lescott he won’t bow to his demands. “We will continue to work with him as we appreciate his many qualities as a player,” Moyes told Everton’s website. When Hughes spent £17 million to sign Santa Cruz from Blackburn, he was already aware the Paraguay striker’s City debut would be put on hold due to knee surgery. But Hughes has plenty of attacking options after also signing Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez and he plans to let Santa Cruz recover at his own pace. — AFP
