GREENSBORO: American Ryan Moore captured his first PGA Tour title with a birdie on the third playoff hole in the final round of the Wyndham Championship.

The former US amateur champion rolled in five birdies down the stretch to shoot a final round five-under-par 65 and get into the playoff of the 5.2 million dollar event.

"I just want to soak it in," he said. "It felt like an uphill battle just to get to this point. I tried to stay positive through it all, including fighting through injuries and it worked out for me today."

Moore finished with a 16-under-par 264 total and was joined there by Kevin Stadler (66) and Jason Bohn (62) at the Sedgefield Country Club course.

On the first playoff hole (No. 18) Moore two-putted for par, while Stadler got up and down for another par.

Bohn was in the same bunker as Stadler and left his third in the sand. He blasted to three feet, but Moore made par to eliminate him.

Moore and Stadler, who was hoping to join his dad Craig as a winner here, headed to the 10th tee for the second playoff hole.

Both tapped for par so it was back to the 18th hole for the third playoff hole.

Moore hammered his drive down the middle of the fairway then hit a lazer on to the green which stopped nine feet short of the flag. He clinched the win with the birdie putt.

"This is amazing. For this to be my first PGA Tour victory makes it even better," Moore said.

Stadler's drive went left into the rough then chipped over the green on 18. He two-putted for a bogey.

Sergio Garcia, who shared the lead with Chris Riley heading into the final round, stumbled down the stretch and closed with an even-par 70 to take fourth at minus-15.

Riley also fell apart shooting a four-over 74 to finish tied for 13th at minus-11.
