Nine injured in blast

RUPANDEHI: Nine pedestrians were injured when suspected Maoists detonated a bomb at the house of former chairman of the Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI ), Hira Prasad Shrestha, in Butwal on Tuesday. Eight of the injured are being treated at the Lumbini Zonal Hospital while one returned home after treatment. DSP Maya Kumar Shah said four suspected Maoists in the guise of shoppers planted the bomb at around 10.30 am. — HNS

One Maoist killed

DIPAYAL: One Maoist was killed on Tuesday in a security operation in the Kunedada area of Doti district. According to a press release issued by the RNA’s Far-west division, the Maoist commander of area no 12, Tej Bahadur Khadka, was killed during the crossfire, the release said. — HNS

Envoy calls on Chinese FM

KATHMANDU: Nepali ambassador to China, Narendra Raj Pandey, paid a courtesy call on Chinese Foreign Minister, Li Zhaoxing, in Beijing on Tuesday. Extensive discussions were held on bilateral ties as well as the Chinese Foreign Minister’s forthcoming visit to Nepal beginning March 31. Maoists free PCCI chief

PYUTHAN: Maoists released the vice-chairman of Pyuthan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Raj Kumar Kakshapati, at Phakleni of Tiram VDC on Monday. Kakshapati was abducted on March 19 while he was on his way to Pyuthan from Butwal. — HNS

POKHARA: The chief of Paschimanchal Engineering Campus, Lamachaur Abhimanyulal Singh, has resigned on Tuesday. He was compelled to resign after Free Students’ Union (FSU) members based at the campus threatened him to do so. The FSU members had ghraoed him on Tuesday. — HNS

ANNFSU charge

KATHMANDU: The All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) on Tuesday said, the DAO, Bhaktapur, didn’t abide by the Supreme Court order. According to an ANNFSU release, the SC had ordered the administration office on March 15 to release student leaders detained at the NEA Training Centre, Kharipati of Bhaktapur after a hearing on habeas corpus. “When asked why they were not released, Gehnatah Bhandari, the CDO of Bhaktapur, said he has not received the release order.” — HNS
