Industrialists press for security

BIRATNAGAR: Local industrialists and entrepreneurs in Biratnagar today urged the Finance Ministry to provide proper security to industrial sector. Speaking at the sixth general meeting of Birat Trade Association here , Constituent Assembly member and industrialist, Moti Dugad, blamed the government's conspicuous apathy for the bankruptcy in the industrial sectors in the country. He claimed more than half dozen industries in the Sunsari-Morang corridor had been closed due to the prevalent insecurity resulted due to the political instability. “Worse, the government did not bring any plan to resurrect the industries that are going to the dogs after the Koshi flood last year. Security condition in the industrial area has been deteriorating as the government has been dillydallying the formation of Industrial Security Force," he said. Central member of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jagadish Rathi said that the industries had been closing gradually as the government could not encourage the investors. Responding to the industrialists' concern, Finance Minister Surendra Pandey informed that the government was studying to establish ISF soon. “The Industrial Security Force will be established at the earliest as the government has been seriously looking into the matter," he said, adding, "We have also allocated a large sum for this purpose.'' The BTA chairman, Dhruba Dahal, demanded that the government reduced the income tax which was increased by 150 percent. “The budget has been dragged to controversy every year as it has been neglecting the small traders while forming rules and regulation pertaining to them.” On the occasion, the BTA also put forth its 17-point charter of demands to the finance minister.
