World Boxing C’ship KATHMANDU: Rajan Shilpakar is set to take on an Irish opponent in the men's 75kg weight category during the World Boxing Championships in Milan on Wednesday. Two Nepali boxers including coach Prachanda Sharma left for Italy on August 10 but Dinesh Shrestha returned home on August 28 after fracturing a finger during training in Rome. Shrestha was scheduled to fight in the men's 51kg category. Shrestha is currently undergoing treatment at the B&B Hospital, said Nepal Boxing Association General Secretary Rajiv Shrestha on Tuesday. — HNS Rai wins gold medal KATHMANDU: Moti Rai of Buddha Prakash clinched gold medal in the men's Tai Chi defeating Karma Sherpa of Kapan Wushu Kwan at the second Valleywide Wushu Tournament here on Tuesday. Deep Maharjan of Maha Laxmi English School took the bronze. In women's Tai Chi Irisha Rai of Ullens School bagged the gold while Karuna Maharjan of Maha Laxmi and Sangita Prajapati of Madhyapur Wushu Kwan took silver and bronze respectively. Sunny Shrestha of Central Wushu Kwan defeated Bishal Magar of Buddha Prakash to claim men's Nan Tao title while Prashani Tamang of Bhaktapur picked up the women's NanTao gold edging Asmita KC of Sunshine Wushu Kwan in finals. Likewise, in women's San Sau 30-35kg final Santoshi Sharma defeated Sangita Lama to earn the gold medal. — HNS Sanjay advances BHAKTAPUR: Sanjay Prajapati of Bhaktapur and Sampurna Maharjan of Boshigaun entered the second round of the U-17 National Youth Boxing Championships that kicked off here on Tuesday. In the men's 48kg bout Sanjay defeated Govindra Raj Joshi of Makwanpur while Sampurna knocked out Sunil Thapa Magar of Salyan. Krishna Prasad Sen of Kapilvastu, Sandip Pariyar of Dang, Laxmi Prasad Duwal of Bhaktapur, Hasta Bahadur of Surkhet and Binod Tamang of Lalitpur also made it to the second round of the same category. A total of 140 boxers in eight different categories are participating in the five day tournament organised by Bhaktapur Boxing Training Committee. The top three boxers in each category will receive Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively. — HNS Karate tournament KATHMANDU: Samakhushi Dojo of the Nepal Shito-Ryu Karate Association is organising the fifth Zonal Karate and Kickboxing Tournament here from September 11. The two-day tournament will see around 715 players of eight districts from Bagmati zone along with 32 dojos of Kathmandu Valley and seven schools. In all, kumite 20 events -- 11 in men's and nine in women's -- has been included in the tournament. Likewise, kickboxing features eight weight categories -- five in men's and three in women's. The estimated cost of the tournament is Rs 400,000, said the organisers on Tuesday. — HNS Bahik Scotland bound KATHMANDU: Nepal International Takewondo Federation (ITF)'s member and coach Tham Bahadur Bahik is leaving for Scotland on Wednesday to attend a black-belt seminar. The seminar scheduled for September 4-6, said Krishna Bahadur Balal, president of Nepal ITF here on Tuesday. — HNS Basketball tourney KATHMANDU: The first National Inter-liaison Forum Basketball Tournament is scheduled for September 3 to 9, organisers CPN-UML Jhapa-Kathmandu Liaison Forum said at a press meet here on Tuesday. A total of |eight CPN-UML Liaison Forums across the nation have confirmed their participation in the tournament to be played in knockout format at the National Sports Council's covered hall. Each team is allowed to include two national players, said the organisers. — HNS
