DIPAYAL: Teaching-learning activities in six schools based in Doti's Lanakedareshwor VDC have been halted for past three weeks to accommodate people displaced by flood and landslide there. People displaced by the flood that occurred in the third week of August are being sheltered in schools including Damsila Lower Secondary School, Youba Barsha Lower Secondary School, Lanakedareshwor Higher Secondary School and Budhakot Primary School. Sixty houses including 10 in Ward No 4, 8 in Ward No 6, 15 in Ward No 9 and 13 in Ward No 5 of Lanakedareshwor VDC collapsed in the disaster. The schools have been housing more that 300 victims whose houses collapsed during the nature's fury. "We cannot force the displaced to vacate the schools until an alternative is found," Dipak Malla, teacher at Budhakot Primary School said. "We have been compelled to halt the classes." "We conduct classes in fair weather," Malla said. "What's worse, most students are without books since they lost them in the landslips." Teachers have expressed fear that the courses might not be finished on time. Concerned authorities are yet to work out any solution. Officials at District Education Office have said the classes cannot be resumed until the displaced are rehabilitated. No political party has made efforts to solve the problem so far. Meanwhile, the displaced have complained that they are without medicine and relief materials. Some of them have caught diarrhoea. The flood victims have been staging a sit-in at District Administration Office. Doti CDO Govindamani Bhurtel said the victims would be provided with relief soon.
