Kathmandu, April 3:
Speakers at a programme today said that instead of merely producing good students with brilliant results, educational institutions should concentrate on producing good citizens who can contribute to society. Parents ought to give guidance and counselling to check their wards from going astray.
The programme cum seminar on student development through informal education was organised by Golden Valley Private Limited.
Father LV Brooks, director of Guidance and Counselling at St Xavier’s College, said the demand for counselling of adolescents had increased. The reason is adolescents have to face problems like changing sexual mores, identity crisis, family and peer pressure. “We need to produce all-ound good citizens rather than merely students. For this, proper guidance and support is a must,” said Fr Brooks.
He added, “All educational institutes should provide counselling and impart
moral education.” Indu Chemjong, principal, Campion Kathmandu College, said that education is a subsystem of society, and so, all educational institutes have a major role in producing good citizens of the country.
