Many educational institutes have not been able to provide things as per the need of students. Schools and colleges have mushroomed and teachers are always dividing their limited time in many colleges and this can definitely affect the quality of education they provide. But if a teacher manages his time with the confidence that s/he can deliver his/her best, then maybe it will not hamper the quality of education s/he provides to students. It is the teacher who needs to work more as they need to cover up the subject matter in a short period of time and deliver quality education to their students. — Amrita Nepal, Kharibot n I don’t think that this teaching trend affects students’ attempt of attaining quality education at all. In a way, it is beneficial because this trend is based on ‘the more you work, the more you earn’ principle, unlike a full time job. Especially, working women benefit from this trend. They can adjust their time in different schools/colleges and manage to make money and they get to spend time at their homes as well. — Krisha Amatya, Kumaripati n The question of whether it is right or wrong to teach in more than one school or college is something that cannot be answered in black and white. It really depends on the capacity and efficacy of the teacher. Teachers should be able to draw a line and know their limitations because their decision is going to affect the lives of many children who are their students. Teaching, in no way should be considered a profession of moneymaking. The day teachers take their profession being money minded, they will be adversely affecting the lives of those children. They should always try and limit the number of classes they take and number of institutions they teach in, so that their efficiency is not hampered. — Avishek K Karky n Teachers teaching in numerous colleges may not create much of a problem as long as teachers give their best to their students. Also another positive aspect about it is that students will get a chance to receive different ideas and opinions and may have a wider perspective on things due to the variation in experience a teacher gets in different educational institutions. — Pranit Sharma, Balaju n It is good as well as beneficial from the teacher’s point of view to be engaged in more than one educational institution. But from students’ perspective it is harmful as it will affect their studies. If the teacher is engaged in many institutions, then s/he cannot give his/her full attention towards the performance of students. S/he may be always in a hurry and in the time of need they may not be available. Being a student I have also felt this problem many times. I can’t find teachers in college when I need their help. — Sunita Twati, Bhaktapur n Nowadays almost all teachers are engaged in teaching in more than one college. This certainly affects the quality of education. During my intermediate levels, I never ever got a chance of talk to teachers besides during regular classes. They were always busy and would have managed their schedules in such a way that they were always in a hurry to reach another college. So, I was unable to consult my teachers when I was in need. — Anesh Shrestha n It is a well known fact that teaching professionals are paid less and have limited income. So, teachers are involved in teaching in multiple colleges. I believe that unless we do practise any task a lot, we will not be skilled in it at all. Therefore, if a teacher gets a chance to interact with many students having different nature and attitudes, they will get a better idea and acknowledge students psychology more as well as build confidence to deal with other students. Besides, they can apply the techniques and methodology of one institution in another, which not only makes their performance better but at the same time students get an opportunity to learn new things and can be taught in a better manner. Yes, teachers can deliver their best with this kind of a teaching trend. The more they teach, the more they become capable, and capable teachers undoubtedly are certain to present the finest to their students! — Ashmita Neupane, Kaushaltar, Bhaktapur n Multiple teaching by teachers has caused difficulties for students. If a students wants to ask a teacher some questions, then they are not available at the premises. We just have to wait for his/her next period for the solution even if s/he has just one period a week. The question is forgotten by that time. The question is then seen straight in the exam papers and at that very instant we remember that the question was forgotten and we lose marks. And we are the ones who have to pay the price for it. — Anamol Rajbhandari n Most Nepali teachers are engaged in more than one educational institution. They are involved in teaching from early morning to late evening. They are satirically called ‘helmet teachers’ in the sense that they go to various different colleges on a day with a motorbike. But they are so busy that they don’t even have time to put off their helmets even during class hours. Firstly such teachers can’t provide enough time for students’ queries. Once they finish their classes, they immediately rush to another institution. Secondly, they cannot deliver modern innovative education to the students as they are not able to spend enough time for their studies and be prepared before they go to class. — Gopal Khanal, Panipokhari n There is no harm in teaching in more than one educational institution. Multiple teaching trend has started due to high cost of living in the Valley. It is hard to survive in the city by taking one or two periods in a day. Those teachers who have good teaching skills and expertise in their respective subjects are in demand. These are the teachers who are really satisfied in their profession and only satisfied teachers can be productive and serious towards teaching students. Similarly, good teaching practices and system of one institution can be utilised for the betterment of other students and institutions. This not only helps in imparting quality education to students, but also contributes in improving the overall development of the education sector. — Regmi Siris, Bhaisepati n Multiple teaching practices are not good because it makes teachers salary-oriented rather than education-oriented. Teachers may teach students being based on salary paid to them. They may not feel that it is their responsibility to deliver quality education. There is no opportunity for students to interact with students. Teachers become exam-oriented focusing to make students pass exams only. Among teachers also, unhealthy competition of taking classes in more than one institution can take place. When teachers are in a hurry, we cannot expect to get quality education from them. — Hareram Pradhan, Satdobato n It is not bad for teachers to teach in many colleges since practice makes a man perfect. But the way teachers are taking up teaching profession, it reflects an attitude that they lean towards monetary gain. Teachers barely find time for their students and being associated with more than one institution, teachers lack a sense of responsibility towards students. At the same time they don’t have any strong bond towards the organisation they are working for. Unless there is a bond or a sense of responsibility how can one expect better output? This is one of the main reasons why our education standard is decreasing. — Ambika Pandey, Chitwan n Teachers’ involvement in teaching in more than one educational institute is sure to affect the educational quality. It may have only 10 per cent positive effect, while students will suffer by 90 per cent as teachers involved in multiple teaching cannot deliver their best. Teaching is not only the task of completing the course but is the task of enhancing students’ all-round development. Thus teachers are obliged to evaluate students’ educational, physical as well as psychological aspects. — Bimal Rai (teacher), Kistland Secondary School n Educational institutions in Nepal have been a major source of earning money rather than providing quality education. Multiple teaching practices by professors in many colleges might be a major source of earning as we have observed that there is no uniformity in the salary provided by educational institutions to teachers/professors. The first factor that should be considered is remuneration so as to provide quality education. If sufficient remuneration is provided, then there is no need of teaching in multiple colleges. Besides the schools hiring such professionals should clearly mention in their appointment letter that they are not allowed to take multiple classes in any other institution besides the one they are employed in. — Mahesh Pd Sharma n Multiple teaching in my opinion is the most necessary thing nowadays due to increasing number of educational institutions. There is a huge demand for good teachers. I don’t think teaching in different colleges and schools by a single teacher will hamper the studies of the students as the teachers teach the same thing to all students. Obviously, teachers who are involved in multiple teaching methods can deliver their best. They can even perform better as they gain much experience after teaching in different institutions. — Aashutosh Aryal n The improper ratio of colleges and teachers has forced teachers to teach in multiple places. But such teachers will be more money-oriented rather than concentrating on providing quality education. As such, teachers lack sufficient time to prepare themselves for new teaching techniques, which would help students to learn in a better manner. — Bikash Kandel n Students are highly affected by teachers’ involvement in multiple places. Teachers are unable to attend their classes on time and don’t give full attention while teaching. They are not well prepared as their time goes on travelling. Teaching is being taken just as a means of earning money. Teachers have started to believe in quantity of classes rather than quality of classes. There should be clear norms for teachers regarding the number of institutions in which they can teach. — Mira Dhakal n Whenever a teacher engages himself in teaching in more than one educational institution, his tight schedule will make him unable to collect and emphasise on adequate, relevant contents that students need according to their curricula. And the knowledge of students who study with such teachers will remain incomplete. The teachers benefit economically but the career of students is ruined. Students get academic certificates but lose out on quality education. Hence, such type of multiple teaching trends should be prohibited. — Namrata Dhaubhadel
