Indian rotarians win opening clash

KATHMANDU: The Rotarian team of Kolkata, India (RI District 3291) defeated the Rotarian team of Nepal (RI District 3292) by 30 runs in the International Fellowship of Cricketing Rotarians (IFCR) Twenty20 cricket match here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium today. The Indian team, opting to bat first after winning the toss, piled up a modest 160 runs losing eight wickets. In reply, the Nepali team could muster 130 runs losing six wickets. Opener Suresh Khatri, who is also the vice captain of the Nepali team, scored run-a-ball 40 including three boundaries before he retired. As per the match rule, batsman scoring 40 will be automatically retired but can resume his innings after the fall of seventh wicket. Kapil Dhurka remained unbeaten on 35 off 19 balls that included five boundaries and a six, while Nischal Pradhan (11) and Pramod Jaiswal (10) were the other batsmen to reach the double figure mark for the hosts team. Kaniska Baheti, Raj Bagri and Anirudh Majeji took one wicket for the visitors. Earlier, the Indian team opener Chitranjan Chaudhary scored a quick fire 51 off 38 balls including eight fours. to post a challenging total that also earned the skipper the man of the match award. Chaudhary resumed his innings from 41 runs after the fall of seventh wicket and added another 10 runs. Kaniska Baheti scored 31 off 23 balls that included five hits to the fence. Sandeep Mundra hit four fours in his 12-ball 26. Nischal Pradhan picked up two wickets for the Nepali team. The two teams will now play a 30-over-a-side match at the same venue on Monday. The two teams are scheduled to participate in the mini World Cup to be held in Kolkata in December, along with the Rotarian teams from the eight Test playing nations.
