KATHMANDU: Traffic Police today unveiled that the road accidents in the Kathmandu Valley were reduced by 80 per cent during the Dashain this year. Sita Ram Hachhethu, inspector and in-charge of Metropolitan Traffic Police Circle, Koteshwor told The Himalayan Times that the road accidents during the Dashain have gone down by 80 percent this Dashain. He said, "We had mobilised around 50 more traffic personnel for this Dashain," adding, "Most of the officers did not leave for their homes during this Dashain." He also stated that there was no casualty in the valley this Dashain for the traffic police were active more than ever before. "Last year, there used to be traffic check-points only at major junctions such as Koteshwor, Baneshwor. But this time, we had deployed traffic police officers in almost all other junctions in the valley to check reckless driving and other activities that could cause accidents.” He further said that the glittering stickers patched on the concrete road dividers also helped reduced the accidents a good deal. He informed that they had also mobilised mobile teams of traffic police officers to check the reckless drunk driving.
