KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has begun necessary preparations for its Mahasamiti Meeting (MM) that is slated for November 1 to 3 in Kathmandu. The meeting will be held at Nepal Academy, Kamaladi. The party has 1,250 members in the Mahasamiti — the second powerful body in the party. The financial committee coordinated by vice president Gopal Man Shrestha already held two rounds of discussions so as to manage financial resources for the meeting. The committee has requested all well-wishers, sympathisers and party leaders and cadres to provide financial assistance to make the Mahasamiti meeting a success, according to Shrestha. NC sources say the party requires to collect Rs 5 to 6 million to cover the expenses for the event. “We’ve also decided to collect some amount from NC Constituent Assembly (CA) members, central committee members, party leaders and Mahasamiti members,” said Shrestha. The party also instructed its ministers in the coalition to chip in some money. Dhyan Govinda Ranjit, coordinator, Mahasamiti preparation committee, said that the committee would meet tomorrow to expedite preparations. “We’ll form management, committee, volunteers, publicity and welcome sub-committees,” he said. Krishna Prasad Sitaula is heading the party statute amendment committee, while Ram Chandra Poudel heads political proposal preparation committee. Likewise, Chakra Prasad Bastola and Prakash Man Singh are heading separate committees to work out for drafting party’s view on state restructuring in the new constitution and to resolve party’s internal disputes in different districts, respectively. Bimalendra Nidhi, general secretary, NC, informed that the Mahasamiti would dwell on four agendas -- approving proposed revised statute of the party to transform its organisational structure for making it more inclusive and democratic, making the party’s authentic view about state restructuring, approving party’s organisational report presented by general secretary and approving a political proposal on contemporary politics.
