TEHRAN: Iran said today it wants a review of the UN-brokered nuclear fuel deal, insisting it prefers to purchase the supplies directly from any world producer. Tehran’s latest stance on the high-profile deal came as close ally Moscow and London urged the Islamic republic to accept the offer which aims at applying the brakes on Iran’s galloping nuclear programme. “We are ready to buy the fuel under the supervision of the agency from any producer as we bought this type of fuel from Argentina around 20 years ago with the cooperation of the agency,” said Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Tehran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency. Soltanieh, however, did not clarify whether Iran was rejecting the present UN draft, which proposes to ship out Tehran’s low-enriched uranium abroad for further processing and conversion into fuel. Today, Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, on a visit to Malaysia, called for a review of the deal, a move that could heighten tension with world powers keen to implement the offer. “We have considered this proposal, we have some technical and economic considerations on that,” Mottaki told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.
