KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar today said that the UCPN-Maoist would not be able to lead the government until and unless its army, weapons and paramilitary youth wing — Young Communist League — are dismantled. Speaking at Reporters’ Club, the DPM said that parties like Nepali Congress and CPN-UML committed the blunder in the past by bringing the Maoists into parliament and government without managing its arms and army. “Such mistakes should not be repeated in the future. The Maoists should be disarmed before giving them opportunity to lead the government,” he said, attributing the reason of the Maoists being the largest party to the arms and armies. He also claimed that the Maoists did not want to promulgate the constitution on time. “Because of the Maoist activities, the nation is heading towards confrontation, and not in the right track.” He even warned that the peace process might be derailed due to the ongoing activities of the Maoists. “They are resurrecting their parallel governments in different districts. The seize of Dhankuta Municipality a few days ago is a stark violation of Comprehensive Peace Accord.” He claimed that the Maoists opted for the street protests and other violent means to regain the power. The DPM also revealed that the MJF led by Upendra Yadav was positive to join the coalition.
