KATHMANDU: Nepal and India are all set to hold secretary level talks on security issues. The talks, which zero in on cross border crimes and mutual cooperation on security issues, will begin in Kathmandu tomorrow. Home Secretary Govinda Kusum and his Indian counterpart G K Pilli will participate in the meeting. Jaya Mukunda Khanal, spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs, informed that the Nepali side would raise the issues of cross border crime, containing the activities of the armed groups, women trafficking and arms smuggling during the dialogue. Nepal will also ask for India’s cooperation in controlling criminal activities taking place in the troubled Tarai region. “India is expected to raise the issues such as extradition treaty, strips map, curbing the anti-Indian activities, fake currency issue, among others, during the talks,” said a source at the ministry. However, no agreement on extradition treaty and strips map will be reached as such issues require broader consensus among the political parties, the source added. During her Nepal visit last month, Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao had raised the issues of extradition treaty and strips map with the Nepalese officials. Then, both sides had agreed to raise these issues during the home secretary level meeting. The previous meeting with the home secretaries was held one-and-a-half years ago in New Delhi, India.
