Police special court holds forth

KATHMANDU: Police special court has convicted a cop on charges of fleeing away with arms, on Friday. The court has convicted him with a life sentence and confiscation of his property. The court under the chairmanship of Deputy Attorney General Prem Raj Karki convicted him of the offence. Along with confiscation of the property, the convicted, senior head constable Shyam Kumar Thapa will be facing a 20iyear jail term. Joint Secretary Prem Kumar Rai and Joint Secretary Prem Kumar Rai and Deputy Inspector General of Armed Police Force Prakash Ojha were among the jury. The court, however, has issued clean chit to police personnel Shahendra Gharti Magar, Ananta Prasad Paudel, Lila Bahadur Darji, Kamal Puri, Suka Bahadur Gurung, and Arun Kumar Thapa. They were prosecuted on charges of fleeing away with 2 SMGs and 2 SLRs from a barrack in Kapilvastu base camp.
