MJF comes up with federal model for Tarai

KATHMANDU: The Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) today presented its concept paper on state restructuring at a meeting of the Constituent Assembly Committee on State Restructuring and Sharing of State Power. MJF co-president J P Gupta, a member of the committee, said they had proposed entire Tarai as a single state in line with the party's demand for "One Madhes, One Province". The concept paper, however, remains mum about the number of federal states to be carved across the country. The concept paper has proposed nothing about the number of sates in the hills and the mountains. "We have presented our views on the entire Madhes. Other parties should come up with their opinions on areas they represent," Gupta said. Gupta also said that they were in a mood of agitation as the agreements reached between the erstwhile government and the Madhesi parties in the past were not implemented by the state. The UCPN-Maoist, the largest party in the CA, has already presented its views on restructuring of the state. But the Maoists have proposed federal states on ethnic and geographical lines.
