SINDHUPALCHOWK: A meeting held today to reopen the site office of the much-touted Melamchi Drinking Water Project (MDWP), which has been padlocked since three months, ended inconclusively. The meeting represented by members of the political parties, local administration, Heyalmo Sindhu Melamchi Valley Social Welfare Programme, could not make any significant headway. Instead of sending party leaders, the major political parties fielded their representatives in the meeting, thus failed to reach a consensus, observers said. The meeting was held in Chautara, the district headquarter. Bharat KC, Deputy Executive Director of MDWP, urged all the concerned authorities to resume the stalled project office without further delay. KC also tried to comfort the locals urging them not to be worried about the fate of the project since the foundation stone of the canal had already been laid in Sundarijal. “I urge all the stakeholders to work seriously for accomplishing the project,’’ he added. The locals had padlocked the office on the fifth day after the foundation stone of the canal was laid on August 3, putting forth different demands. The padlock has brought the ongoing work to a standstill.
