GAIGHAT: Local businessmen called a Gaighat bandh on Thursday to protest the manhandling of vegetable vendors by a gang of youths last evening. Shops were closed while vehicles remained off the road throughout the day in Gaighat, the district headquarters of Udaypur. Protesting traders chanted slogans against the local administration, accusing the police of not reaching the incident site on time despite being informed about the high-handedness. A group of locals hurled stones at the traders yesterday evening when a friend of theirs was thrashed.
