Hosts, Daffodil win KATHMANDU: Hosts Unique and Daffodil School set the junior boys’ title clash of the fifth Unique Inter-school Valleywide Basketball Tournament. Unique ended Gauri Shankar’s challenge with a 25-19 win. Tshering Jangbu Sherpa netted 13 points for Unique. Tshering Tamang posted eight points to give Daffodil a 28-21 victory over Reliance. Niten Memorial School (NIMS) and Kantipur reached to the girls’ final. NIMS defeated Daffodil 30-9 and Kantipur eased past the hosts 41-16. Likewise, Unique ‘A’ and ‘B’ entered senior boys’ three-on-three final. St Xavier’s triumph LALITPUR: St Xavier’s School of Jawalakhel and Rejina Amoris won their matches at the fourth Father Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament on Monday. St Xavier’s defeated hosts St Xaviers of Godavari (Blue) 2-0 after a brace from Sujal Lal Shrestha. Regina Moris defeated St Xaviers (Red) 3-0 riding on two goals from Rajan Thapa and a goal from Yukesh Lama. In other matches, defending champions Nepal APF School saw off Dolphin 4-0. Dinesh Shahi scored two goals while Sushanta Karki and Abhaya Khadka added one each. Dipak Lama and Sudarshan Timisina scored as Machapuchhre edged past Chelsea International Academy 2-0. Akhil Cup KATHMANDU: Nepal Commerce Campus (NCC) beat St Lawrence 1-0 in the inaugural match of the Akhil Cup Inter-college football tournament on Monday. Niresh Dulal scored the solitary goal in the 68th minute. Earlier in a friendly match, the team of artists and journalists defeated the team of 12 student unions 3-0. Badri Pangeni, Shankar BC and Dipak Shrestha scored for the winners. A total of 73 higher secondary schools and colleges are participating in the knockout tournament organised by the Bagmati Zone Coordination Committee of the All Nepal National Free Students Union. NIMS basketball KATHMANDU: Niten Memorial School (NIMS) are organising the first Jiten Thakuri Memorial Inter-school Basketball Tournament from December 8-12. A total of 20 schools — 12 in boys and 8 in girls’ sections — will take part in the event, said the organisers at a press meet on Monday. Annal Jyoti thru KATHMANDU: Gyan Sudha, Venus, Annal Jyoti and New Diamond School reached the girls’ semi-finals of the second Newton Valleywide Inter-school Volleyball Tournament here on Monday. Gyan Sudha defeated Samakhushi English Boarding School 25-20, 25-22, Venus sidelined hosts Newton 15-25, 26-24, 25-11, Annal Jyoti overcame Angel Heart 25-23, 25-19 and New Diamond outplayed Awareness International Academy 25-9, 25-6. Newton ‘A’, Nagarjun and Ever Young ‘B’ entered the boys’ semi-finals. Newton ‘A’ beat Green Kantipur 25-9, 25-14, Nagarjun edged past Ever Young ‘A’ 25-16, 25-13 and Ever Young ‘B’ cruised through with a 25-12, 19-25, 25-12 win over Kamana School. Judo course ends KATHMANDU: The IOC Solidarity Judo Coaches’ Course organised by Nepal Judo Association (NJA) concluded here on Monday. A total of 42 coaches from 15 districts, Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Central Dojo took part in the 10-day course conducted by the fourth Dan Judo expert Dianni of Austria. Youth and Sports Minister Ganesh Nepali gave away the certificates to the participants at the Multi-purpose Martial Arts Centre in Naya Bazaar.
