Gachhadar rules out change of guard

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Planning and Works Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar today ruled out the possibility of forming a new government led by the Unified CPN-Maoist. Speaking at a programme organised here by Reporter’s Club Nepal, Gachhadar said the CPN-UML-led government would last till the new constitution is promulgated within the stipulated time. “Seeking alternative to the present government would adversely affect the constitution writing and peace process,” he said, urging the Maoists to join the coalition government and give up the ‘politics of confrontation.’ “If at all the Maoists are serious about resolving the problems facing the nation, they should not look for an alternative to the present government,” he added. He blamed that that Maoist is pushing the nation towards the confrontation contrary to country’s demand to the consensus. He said, “Maoist plan to declare the autonomous states is breach of the comprehensive Peace Agreement and consensus politics.” He requested the Maoist to withdraw all the protest and agitation and come to the constructive dialogue. He reiterated the previous commitment that Maoist combatants should be managed before the promulgation of the new constitution. He said, “I do not want to say the integration but their armies should be managed before declaring the constitution.
