KATHMANDU: Outgoing Chief Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhi met Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday. During the meeting, Rayamajhi asked the PM to secure the independence of the judiciary in the new statute. He also stressed the need to shift the Supreme Court building outside Singha Durbar premises. He, however, criticised the government for not executing many court orders, a source close to the CJ said. Rayamajhi, retiring on Saturday, would meet the President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Thursday.

KATHMANDU: Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai, Dean, Institute of Engineering (IoE), Tribhuvan University passed away at the age of 55 due to heart attack on Wednesday. Durga Prasad Sangraula, chief, Pulchowk Campus told that Dr Bhattarai had been serving there for almost one and a half year now. Bhattarai was survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. But unfortunately none of them are here in the country. His son is in Japan while the daughter and the wife are in the US. Sangraula said that Bhattarai’s body has been kept at TU Teaching Hospital.

LALITPUR: The High-level Committee on Solid Waste Management has forwarded a draft of Expression of Interest for final approval from Ministry of Local Development . “As soon as the Ministry approves it, we will publish the EOI,” said Dr Sumitra Amatya, general manager, Solid Waste Management and Resource Mobilisation Centre. “MoLD is authorised to sign the agreement with the private sector for setting up garbage-fuelled plant,” she added.

KATHMANDU: Unified CPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday said the Cabinet’s decision that the Maoists had breached the CPA was untrue. “The PM told me that the Cabinet did not take a decision like that,” he said. “I was told that the cabinet decision about the breach of the CPA was floated due to a lack of coordination among the ministries,” he said.
