Gyanodaya in final
LALITPUR: Hosts Gyanodaya Bal Batika on Wednesday inched closer to the girls' basketball tournament title held under the 16th Eicher Gyan Carnival. Gyanodaya eased past Galaxy Public School 39-18 in the semi-final riding on 12 points from Karma Dolma. Also, Graded English Medium School (GEMS) and Wilson Academy set the title clash winning their respective boys' semi-finals. GEMS ended the challenge of Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute (SVI) with a 54-43 win while Wilson laboured to a 54-41 win over Little Angels School. GEMS also reached to the boys' football final along with SVI. GEMS defeated Bouddha Secondary School 2-1 and SVI saw off Little Angels 2-1. Likewise, Gyanodaya and Deep Jyoti advanced to the junior boys' volleyball final.
Midland basketball
KATHMANDU: Midland School are organising the first Midland Inter-school Mini-boys Basketball Tournament here from December 10 to 14. A total of 12 teams are participating in league-cum-knockout tournament. The 12 teams are divided into four groups. In the inaugural match, hosts Midland will take on New Shrine, the organisers said here on Wednesday.
Sports gear presented
KATHMANDU: Bishnu Auto Care handed over sports wears on Wednesday to 10 taekwondo players who have been selected for the 11th South Asian Games slated for January 29 to February 9 in Dhaka next year. Proprietor of the Auto Care Bishnu Nakarmi presented sports T-shirts, track-suits and shoes to Deepak Bista, Kumar Manandhar, Badri Nath Basnet, Ramesh Shrestha, Ashish Maharjan, Dan Bahadur Airee, Ayesha Shakya, Manita Shahi, Yan Kumari Chaulagain and Sabina Maharjan here at a programme. Speaking on the occasion, Olympian Bista said that such support from private sector would always help motivate players to perform well. Nepal Taekwondo Association General Secretary Deep Raj Gurung was also present on the occasion.
Pushpanjali triumph
LALITPUR: Pushpanjali School hammered hosts St Xavier's School of Godavari 8-0 at the fourth Fr Moran Memorial Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament here on Wednesday. Bishwas Bhandari scored four goals while Solomon Chinal scored a brace. Ayush Dhakal and Ashish Magar also added one goal apiece.
Training inspection
KATHMANDU: The National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary on Wednesday inspected players preparing for the 11th South Asian Games in Dhaka early next year. During his inspection, Chaudhary took stocks of the problems of table tennis, athletics, boxing, wushu, taekwondo, women football and kabaddi players during their training.
