KATHMANDU: A World Health Organisation (WHO) consultant today urged Constitutional Assembly members to uphold ‘right to health’ on directive, fundamental, executive and judicial basis.
Dr Yogendra Prasad Pradhananga, public health consultant WHO said that the new constitution should declare scientific, inexpensive, accessible and universal treatmentfor illness, accident and other health problems of the people.
Addressing an interaction
organised by Public Health Action Nepal (PHAN), he said that the new constitution should eliminate every type of exploitation in the health service. “Health of people is primarily a state responsibility” said Pradhananga.
He further added that the new constitution should ensure an environment, whereby every citizen would get timely inexpensive treatment. He urged that the new provision should include health rights to women, children and other marginalised groups. “There should be clear and timely monitoring and evaluation of the public health programme” stressed Pradhananga.
