KATHMANDU: Kathmandu and Lalitpur set championship date for the U-16 Regional Selection Cricket Tournament after winning their last league matches here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium today. Kathmandu topped the four-team league with a maximum nine points from three matches while Lalitpur ended up second with six points. The final is on Wednesday. Lalitpur defeated Nuwakot by 12 runs while Kathmandu beat Bhaktapur by 17 runs. In the first match, Lalitpur were all out for 95 runs in 21.1 overs but defended the total by restricting Nuwakot for 83-5 in 22 overs. Gaurav Pathak top scored for Lalitpur with a fluent 28 off 29 balls while Milan Thapa and Ram Krishna Jaishwal chipped in 15 and 12 runs respectively. Pujan Shrestha (3-15) and Karan Khatiwada (3-22) were the pick of the Nuwakot bowlers. Pradeep Aryal, Sanjay Shah and Subash Sedhain also picked up one wicket apiece. In reply, Nuwakot fell 13 runs short of their target due to their slow run rate. Bishal Rana top scored with 39 and Sunil Sedhain made a painful 19 from 48 balls. Man-of-the-match Gaurav Pathak returned to take 3-9 from five overs for Lalitpur while Ayush Gautam bagged one wicket. In the second match of the day, Kathmandu scored 88-8 in their allotted 25 overs before dismissing Bhaktapur for 71 runs in 22 overs. Skipper Nupur Pandey was the star of the match as he scored an unbeaten 45 and returned to take two wickets as well. Sanjit Shrestha and Bijaya Rokaya also contributed 13 and 11 runs respectively. Bikash Limbu and Sujan Basnet claimed two wickets each while Roshan Khatri and Kiran Shrestha took one wicket apiece for Bhaktapur. Only Gunjan Yadav (13) and Bikash Limbu (11) were able to score in double figure in Bhaktapur run chase as Rishab Rajbhandari tore through their middle order. Man-of-the-match Rishab took 4-12 off five overs while Bijaya Rokaya and Nupur claimed two wickets each. Samip Bastola and Sharad Giri also grabbed one wicket each.
