Govt seeks clarification from NT’s Rajbhandari

Kathmandu, May 8

The government has sought clarification from Managing Director of Nepal Telecom (NT), Kamini Rajbhandari, doubting her managerial efficiency and due to falling competitiveness of NT in domestic telecommunication sector.

The Cabinet meeting, on Monday evening, had decided to seek clarification to this effect from Rajbhandari.

Officials of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) informed that the efficiency of NT’s management and telecommunication services of the company had been deteriorating in recent times, compelling the government to seek clarification from the NT management.

“We will take necessary decisions after analysing the clarification provided by Rajbhandari,” said an official of MoIC seeking anonymity.

In recent times, NT has been charged of failing to deliver competitive telecommunication services compared to those provided by private telecom companies. Moreover, the NT management is also facing allegations of prioritising facilities to its staffers rather than focusing on competitive growth of the company.

A source at MoIC revealed that Rajbhandari could even be sacked if her clarification is unsatisfactory. However, Rajbhandari informed The Himalayan Times that she is yet to receive a letter from the government seeking her clarification. “I have only heard about the government’s decision to seek clarification.”
