House panel seeks land acquisition details

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Committee on Commerce, Industry and Consumer Welfare Relation on Wednesday sought all papers from Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) regarding its land acquisition decisions for expanding petroleum storage facility in different places across the country and the involved tender process and economic and technical proposals for the same.

The House panel direction to this effect has come following reports that NOC has been purchasing land for petroleum storage facilities in different places by paying much higher price than the value of land at the local level. Meanwhile, the committee meeting also drew attention of the Finance Committee of the Legislature-Parliament, which has started probing the NOC land acquisition issue and said that issues related to fuel and NOC is beyond the jurisdiction of the Finance Committee.

The Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday had decided to probe NOC’s land acquisition issue citing that there might have been huge embezzlement of funds during the land purchase.
