NRA signs pact to rebuild 8,100 houses

Kathmandu, June 6

The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) today signed agreements with the Ministry of Urban Development and five international non-governmental organisations to rebuild 8,100 private houses destroyed by the earthquakes of last April and May.

As per the agreement, Nepal Red Cross Society will build 6,000 houses, Helvetas Nepal will build 1,000 houses, Samaritan’s Purse will build 500 houses, Habitat for Humanity will build 350 houses and EWDE-DKH will build 250 houses.

These INGOs should work in areas identified by the NRA, says a press statement issued today by the NRA. The agreement also says the INGOs should allow house owners to rebuild the houses on their own by depositing the grant amount, permitted by the Grant Distribution Guideline, in bank accounts.
