106 VAW cases recorded in a month

Kathmandu, January 25

Women’s Rehabilitation Centre today said it documented 106 cases of violence against women in the month of Paush (mid-December 2015 to mid-January 2016) across the country.

A press statement issued by the organisation here today said that 18 of the cases were documented from various newspapers.

It said that on the basis of geographical division, Tarai region recorded the highest 52 per cent of VAW cases followed by Hilly region with 33 per cent and Himalayan region with 15 per cent of cases of violence against women.

Similarly, on the basis of types of violence, it reveals that 46 per cent of women and girls were subjected to domestic violence, 14 percent physically tortured, 11 percent mentally tortured, whereas 8 percent of women and girls were raped and 6 percent murdered.

Similarly, 4 percent of them were subjected to sexual violence and 3 percent were victims of attempt to rape.

Likewise, one per cent of women were gang raped, forced into polygamy and accused of witchcraft.
