UPDATE: Godawari 13-y/o rape case

KATHMANDU: A 13-year-old girl was raped and was found reeling in shock in Godawari forests of Lalitpur district on Tuesday.

The girl who was sitting at a waiting-area in Sitapaila was approached by a man on a motorcycle who lured her to get on the bike, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Binod Silwal at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Satdobato.

The man stopped his bike on seeing the girl at the waiting-area, asked where she was headed to, and on her revealing that she was in fact waiting for a vehicle that would take her to Gorkha, the culprit convinced her that he would take her home. She agreed and got on his bike, the girl revealed during a police interview.

The perpetrator later took her to the Godawari forest, where he raped her and fled the scene.

Locals after seeing the girl alone in the jungle suspected an untoward action and took her to the police.

Police after receiving the girl at around 5:30 pm on Tuesday, immediately took the girl to the Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital, Thapathali for medical check-up which verified that she was raped, informed DSP Silwal.

Police in course of investigation found that she barely recognised any place in Kathmandu nor knows her way home. She had come to Kathmandu to meet her elder sister who is also a minor. The 15-year-old elder sister later found a household job for her in Tudal Devi.

However, finding the job tedious, she abruptly left her employer's house to take the bus to her home. After walking for about one hour she reached the Sitapaila waiting-area where she was accosted.

The victim is currently under the care of her relatives.

She described that the two-wheeler that she got on was red in colour. Other than that she barely remembers anything about the culprit, perhaps due to shock, said DSP Silwal.

Police are investigating the incident and searching for the rapist.
