Agitators’ concerns to be addressed thru amendments

Kathmandu, September 13

Top leaders of three major parties – Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal – today assured the agitating forces that they would address their concerns even after delivering the new constitution.

Addressing today’s CA meeting at the end of the clause-wise discussion on the final bill of the new constitution, they said they were committed to addressing mainly three issues – adopting principle of proportional inclusion in the state bodies for the underprivileged groups, demarcating the election constituencies on the basis of population by ensuring at least one constituency for each district and addressing the concerns related to boundaries of the federal units through talks. They said these issues could be incorporated in the new constitution through amendment.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala said, “The concerns of agitating parties could be addressed through amendment to the new constitution and issues could be settled through peaceful talks.”

The PM called on all international communities, including the UN, to support the new constitution, as it is democratic and is being delivered through democratic process with maximum consensus.
