KATHMANDU: An inter-religious alliance called the government to withdraw its decision to mobilise army to control political protests, and solve the solution politically.

The Dharma Nirapekshata Samrakshan Mahasamiti consisting representatives of Buddhist, Kiranti, Bon, Islam and Christian groups on Wednesday said the government should address genuine demands of protesters.

The alliance called major political parties to give up their petty stances and prejudices to lead the nation ahead properly.

"The end of violent means to suppress protests with the use of force will obviously become violent," the statement read.

The alliance has also asked media and concerned stakeholders to help maintain communal and religious harmony in Nepali society.

Baidya-led Maoists also condemn army mobilisation

Meanwhile, the CPN-Maoist led by Mohan Baidya also condemned the government decision to mobilise army to suppress anti-constitution protests.

According to a statement issued by the party, its standing committee meeting held yesterday observed that solutions of political parties should be sought politically.

After violent clashes in Tikapur of Kailali on Monday, the government had announced some areas of Tarai districts including Kailali, Rautahat and Sarlahi riot-hit zones and entrusted the concerned District Administration Offices to mobilise Nepal Army, if need be.
