Campaigners seek information from EC

Kathmandu, March 30

An application was registered at the Election Commission today seeking information about whether office-bearers or executive indicted by the court on corruption charges can remain a member of a political party.

Right to information campaigners Taranath Dahal and Kumar Chaulagain jointly filed the application at the EC today as per the Article 27 of the Constitution of Nepal and Clause 3 and 7(1) of the Right to Information Act.

The applicants have sought information about the legal system, the EC’s practice and the law regarding whether or not a person convicted by the court on corruption charges could file candidacy in election at any level either on behalf the party or as an independent candidate. They have also demanded to know whether such individuals could remain in any political office or be appointed to any office.
