CCWFC rally demanding equal rights for women

Collective Campaign for Women Friendly Constitution organised a rally demanding women-friendly constitution in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

More than 2,000 women, rights activists, social workers, journalists and people from various walks of life participated in the rally which began from Babarmahal and converged into a corner meet at New Baneshwor.

Women rights activists have been staging 24-hour relay hunger strike since September 2.

Addressing the participants, rights activist Dr Renu Rajbhandari said they were forced to stage relay hunger strike as the government failed to ensure equal rights to women in the draft constitution.

Program coordinator Ashmita Manandhar said around 2,000 persons, including UCPN-Maoist Vice Chairperson Narayankaji Shrestha, women CA members Asha Koirala, Sita Nepali, Dilmaya Thami, Mamata Giri, Radha Timilsina, advocates and journalists expressed solidarity with their relay hunger strike.
