CPN-M, Madhesi, Janajati parties meet Prez over army mobilisation, statute issues

KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist has submitted a memorandum to President Ram Baran Yadav, objecting to the government move to deploy army in some districts.

The party has also asked the President to help address people’s concerns politically to resolve the disputes recently seen in some parts of the country.

A team comprising CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya met the President at the Office of the President at Shital Niwas today and urged him to address dissatisfaction of people over the new constitution politically.

Talking to mediapersons after submitting the memo, CPN-Maoist Secretary Dev Prasad Gurung said they drew attention of the President through the memo.

He said mobilisation of army was against the provision of the constitution as it could be done only from the President at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers when the country faces serious threats.

Receiving the memo, President Yadav assured the delegation of drawing attention of the government regarding the issue raised by the CPN-Maoist, said Gurung.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Thursday had sent a letter to the CPN-Maoist to participate in the constitution writing process.

Madhesi, Janajati leaders meet Prez

Meanwhile, a group of leaders including Madhes- and Janajati-centric parties also meet President Yadav separately today.

Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Parliamentary Party leader Ashok Kumar Rai, Rastriya Janamukti Party's Shiva Lal Thapa and Tharuhat Tarai Party Nepal's Gopal Dahit among others were present in the meeting.

The leaders also objected to the government decision regarding mobilisation of army in riot-hit zones, according to President's Press Advisor Rajendra Dahal.
