CPN-Maoist’s Gurung holds govt responsible for Tikapur incident

KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Secretary Dev Gurung held the government responsible for the Tikapur incident, saying the latter was not fair while dealing with the supporters of Akhanda Sudur Paschim and Tharuhat movements.

According to him, the untoward situation resulted as the government continued providing protection to the supporters of Akhanda Sudur Paschim while imposing curfew in the areas where the supporters of Tharuhat movement lived.

“Despite repeated requests, the government failed to revoke the curfew,” he said, “The incident then happened in an attempt to defy the curfew.”

Seven security personnel and a two-year-old boy were lynched by an angry mob, while another police succumbed to injuries some days after the incident.

Addressing an interaction programme at Rafat Sanchar Club, Bhaktapur, the Maoist leader went on to say that such sad incidents were obvious during such movements.

Gurung dismissed the claims made by the political parties that the violence in Tikapur resulted due to infiltration during demonstrations. He, however, added that his party lent support to the ongoing protests.
