‘Don’t share or post provocative statements’

Kathmandu, September 7

Given the ongoing protests and strikes across the country, the government today directed all its staffers not to post or share any provocative comment or pictures against social harmony in social sites like facebook, twitter, and blogs.

Issuing a press statement, the Office of the Prime Minister cautioned that such provocative remarks or illustrations against social harmony or against certain cultures, ethnic groups, religions etc had created security challenges.

Stating that even public servants were sharing, tagging, tweeting or re-tweeting, the OPMCM reminded all bureaucrats that their act might hurt the sentiments of the aforementioned cultural, ethnic or religious groups.

According to a statement issued by Spokesperson of OPMCM Uttam Kumar Khatri, all government agencies have been directed to give such instructions to their concerned staffers.

A serving officer at OPMC told THT that OPMCM came up with this instruction after some bureaucrats were involved in giving provocative statements and taking sides for or against the ongoing protests in different parts of the country. Normally, all civil servants are supposed to maintain neutrality over any political discourse.
