Duo held for trading yarsagumba sans licence

KATHMANDU: Two persons were arrested on charge of trading yarsagumba without obtaining a licence.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the house of Kanchhi Maya Tamang in Nayabasti of Jorpati, Gokarneshwor Municipality-12 and arrested them, on Sunday afternoon.

The suspects include Devananda Khadka (37) from Phulpingkatti-6 of Sindhupalchok and Netra Bikram Khadka (38) from Phulpingkatti-8.

Police also confiscated 4.75 kg prized medicinal herb, also considered as Himalayan Viagra, from them.

Yarsagumba is a fruiting body that is formed by the fusion of parasitic fungus Cordyceps sinensis and the host moth larvae.

The suspects have been handed over to Districts Forest Office, Hattisar, for further investigation and action, according to the Metropolitan Police Crime Division.
